Police Homeownership Program

This loan program currently provides a low interest rate mortgage
(Current Interest Rate) to local or state police officers
who purchase
homes in eligible municipalities. (This rate is
subject to change.)

Eligible municipalities must agree to participate, then designate
areas of the municipality where an increased police presence
would be desirable. State or local police officers who purchase
homes in those designated areas are eligible to apply for the
low interest rate, and officers may also use the
Downpayment Assistance Program
regardless of asset restrictions.

Currently, the municipalities listed below
have passed resolutions to participate:

Bloomfield        Hartford *          Norwalk **

Branford           Manchester        Putnam

Bridgeport *    Meriden **         Stamford **

Danbury **       Milford                Stratford

East Haven      New Britain**    Waterbury *

Enfield **         New London*     West Hartford

Hamden             New Haven*

(Note: * Entire city is a targeted area. ** Portions of the city are targeted areas. If you are a prior homeowner, check to see if the home you are purchasing is in a targeted area - click here. However, you may only purchase a home in a targeted area if it is located in one of the participating cities listed above as participating in the Police Homeownership Program.)

Eligible Borrowers
An applicant may be a state police officer purchasing a home in
any participating city, or a local police officer buying a home in
the community he/she serves which is in a participating city. The officer must be a first-time homebuyer. However, if the home being purchased is in a targeted area, the officer does not need to be a first-time homebuyer. However, the targeted area must be a participating city under the Police Homeownership Program.

Household income limits, which vary by municipality, apply to all borrowers with one exception: In targeted areas, over-income households may still apply for CHFA financing without regard to the income limits.

Eligible Properties
The Police Homeownership Program allows financing of existing
and newly constructed single family homes, existing two- and
three-family homes, eligible
condominiums, and newly constructed
two-family homes in targeted areas. The sales price limits established
for the CHFA Homebuyer Mortgage Program apply.
